Working hours:

  • (days): 07.00am - 17.30 Monday to Thursday, with 30 minutes’ unpaid lunch and paid morning and afternoon breaks.

  • (nights): 21.00pm - 07.00 Monday to Wednesday, 17.30 to 03.30 Thursday, with one hour paid break.

The Job You’ll Do;

  • To set, program, and operate large CNC vertical or horizontal borers to machine a range of castings, forgings, profiles, and fabrications, in various metals.

  • Working with the production support team, including planning engineers, machine shop supervisors, team leaders, quality management, and CNC manufacturing engineers.

  • Work as a machinist in a precision CNC machine shop, operating either a horizontal borer, or vertical borer. 

  • Following route cards and reading drawings to understand customer requirements and planned scope of work.

  • Setting large castings, forgings, fabrications, or profiles using a range of work-holding devices.

  • Selecting appropriate tooling.

  • Discussing and agreeing machining methods with managers.

  • Programming machines using Fanuc, Heidenhain or Siemens controls (training on programming can be provided to skilled Manual Machinists)

  • Operating machine to machine component to customer specification.

  • Carrying out stage and final checks with Quality personnel.

About You;

  • Time-Served Machine shop Apprenticeship.

  • Experience with vertical borers or horizontal borers – can be manual.

  • Able to set one-off jobs Experience with components 1m and over.

  • Measurement skills with manual equipment (dimensions and surface finish).

  • Able to read engineering drawings.

  • Programming skills with Siemens, Fanuc or Heidenhein (desirable).

  • Able to work safely and following health, safety, quality, and environmental management systems.
